trentbarton named employer of the year

We've been named Nottinghamshire’s Employer of the Year by an organisation representing the county’s training providers.

We scooped the accolade at an awards event, organised by the Nottinghamshire Training Network, after impressing judges with our apprenticeship programme and commitment to the development of all employees.

Here you can see our team from the Academy showcasing their award.

Danielle Thomas, one of the award judges, commented: “Employment with trent barton is about so much more than driving a bus. Many of the drivers recruited over past years have gone on to take up supervisory and management positions.”

She said this has been achieved by continually improving the skills of both management and delivery staff.

The award was presented during a gala dinner at the East Midlands Conference Centre, which was supported by the National Apprenticeship Service, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.

Following the presentation, Guy Gibson, Head of Training, said: “We’re delighted at this recognition of our commitment to training that’s based around putting the customer first.

“So far we’ve filled around 1,000 places on our driver training programmes. We like to take on individuals of all ages who are good with people, regardless of their age or previous experience, and then teach them to drive a bus, rather than just fill vacancies with qualified drivers who don’t necessarily have the same people skills.

“The same approach is true across the company and all employees have the opportunity to progress their career.”

As well as being presented with a plaque to mark the achievement, We also received £300 worth of high street vouchers, which will be used to support the fundraising efforts for our charity of the year, the Lewis Mighty Fund.
