Our calverton connection driver Billy Streeter is fulfilling a childhood ambition after following in his grandfather’s footsteps – or rather tyre tracks – by landing a job with us.
Billy, one of our youngest drivers, decided he wanted a career on the buses after seeing his grandad, Howard Streeter, behind the wheel. “When I was growing up, whenever I got on a bus I would hope grandad was sitting at the front and now he’s very proud I’m driving on the same route he worked on before his retirement,” the 20-year-old explained.
“It really is a dream come true to carry on his good work, and people are asking about him all the time, as well as commenting on my age!”
Billy, who lives in Mansfield, first joined trentbarton last year and earned his Public Service Vehicle licence just a couple of years after passing his driving test. After spending a year on the threes between Mansfield, Hucknall and Nottingham, he transferred to the calverton connection and has since proved a hit with both customers and colleagues.
Vitto Pizzuti, calverton connection Service Delivery Manager, explained: “Billy is certainly one of our most popular characters and looks even younger than he actually is. “He’s also a very skilled and dedicated driver and we’ve been very impressed by his manner with customers.
Guy Gibson, our Head of Training, added: “Billy’s success demonstrates our different approach to driver recruitment, and age, gender, background or previous experience are no barrier to joining our award-winning team. We want really good people who are prepared to put customers first, who we then teach to drive a bus, rather than the other way around.”
